The client had a requirement to replace an existing community facility which had come to the end of its useful life requiring both a large amount of refurbishment and asbestos removal.

Buchan Special Projects offered a proposal for a replacement building using our precast concrete sandwich panels, externally finished with a coloured Sto render, with timber truss and concrete tile roof.

The scheme comprised of demolition of the existing structure including asbestos removal, followed by the erection of a 156m² single storey building fully fitted out ready for occupation along with both hard and soft landscaping works.

The site had a very narrow access road with a maximum width of 2.2m and therefore in order to undertake the works a temporary roadway was formed through the adjacent primary school.

To eliminate the risks to members of the public and young children, the works were programmed to maximise school holiday periods.

The building consisted of a reception area, office, kitchen, one-to-one room, unisex disabled WC´s, baby changing area, meeting room and plant room.

Electronic security systems were provided to key areas to control access / egress. Low surface temperature radiators were also installed throughout due to the presence of young children.

External works consisted of a car park, pathways and grassed areas and palisade security fencing.

An existing tree within the site which was to remain as a feature was fenced off during the works to prevent damage..
